Shift sign-ups logged, verified, and ranked in real time across a live venue pilot

Staff Rewards Tracker

Private pilot web app for staff rewards sign-ups at the Boston bowling venue where I work. Staff log end-of-shift sign-ups from a phone, managers verify in one tap, and a live leaderboard runs across day, week, month, quarter, and year.

See It Live

Built To Work On The Screen Most People Reach For.

Most people try a free tool on their phone before they ever open it on a desktop. This is how the app actually looks and works there, screen by screen.

  • Most people reach for a tool on their phone first, so the mobile experience is designed to carry that weight, not squeezed in after the desktop build.
  • Every screen shown here, not a single cropped view, so you can see how the whole app holds together on a real screen.
  • The exact live build, captured straight off the shipped app.

Project Overview

How The Project Came Together.

01

Problem

A personally-built pilot running at my workplace, Kings Seaport in Boston. It is not an official Kings product. Staff log their end-of-shift rewards sign-ups from an iPad or phone, managers verify each entry with a single tap, and only verified entries count toward the leaderboard. The business day rolls over at 04:00 ET so a shift that closes at 12:30 am still lands on the correct night.

02

Approach

The product is built venue-neutral: a single codebase that any Kings location could adopt, with an admin-level location switcher and a per-location breakdown for the cross-venue view. Managers are invited by email, scoped to their own venue, and sign in with a magic link. Staff sign up publicly, wait on manager approval, and can back-date up to 90 days or flag a date as uncertain.

03

Result

Operationally it is a production-shape Next.js 16 and React 19 app on Vercel, with Supabase for Postgres, Auth, and realtime updates on the entries table so verifications animate on every open device without a reload. Resend sends manager invites and nightly and weekly recap emails, and Vercel Cron drives the recap schedule. Every verify, approve, reject, edit, and revoke action lands in an append-only audit log. The repository is private, no customer or employee data is published, and the pilot stays dummy-data-first until a broader workflow is approved.

Challenges & Learnings

What It Took, And What Came Out Of It.

01

Challenge

Designing a role hierarchy (admin, manager, staff) that keeps a public sign-up flow safe without blocking real-world shift logging.

Learning

A business-day rollover that matches the actual closing time is more important than a calendar-day default for shift software.

02

Challenge

Keeping leaderboard math honest across day, week, month, quarter, and year with ties, medals, and arrow navigation.

Learning

Append-only audit logs make hospitality tools defensible when managers, staff, and admins all touch the same records.

03

Challenge

Running realtime verification across many devices without a reload while staying stable on a hospitality network.

Learning

Email cadence (nightly + weekly recaps) does more for adoption than extra in-app dashboards.
